One of my classes is called Home and Family Management. We've had two quizzes and two tests (one today) in that class. The quiz that I studied for I got a 'D' on. The quiz that I forgot about and consequently didn't study for I got 100% on. For the first test, when I was studying I wasn't feeling that great, so I just read the chapter summaries of the chapters the test was over, and figured if I bombed it, oh well. The vocabulary portion of the test went well because it was matching, but the rest of the test I knew I hadn't done well on because I was guessing about half the questions. The teacher pulls out the most random trivia from the chapters, which I doubt you would remember if you'd done anything but literally memorize the chapters. E.g. "Alexander Stroud said "The _______ of resources brings about better resource management", when Mr. Stroud was only mentioned in that one line in the entire book. Or "Such-and-such a study showed that Americans are working an average ____ hours more than in the 1920s", when that was casually mentioned once among literally about 25 other such studies per chapter (and the test was over 4 chapters). Imagine my surprise when I got 93% on the test. I took the second test today. I was not about to read the 105 pages of material to study for it, so I read the summaries, went over the terms I didn't know, and examined all the diagrams in those chapters. Taking the test today, again I felt confident on the vocab, but on the rest of the test I felt like I knew even less than on the last test. Lo and behold, I got 96% on it. SO confusing, but I'm not complaining.
The weather here is amazing. It's right about 40*, and I can walk around outside with only a zip-up sweater over my tshirt and still be warm. The snow is melting, little rivulets are running by the side of the road, crocuses (or daffodils, I didn't look too closely) are sprouting up in front of the Clark building, the sun is shining, there are puddles to stomp through, mud to avoid, and no ice to slip on. It's positively tropical :)
I get to register for spring semester classes tonight at midnight. Planning out my schedule was a mess, there were very few classes for either my major or minor that would fit in timewise with other classes I needed to take. What I've ended up with is chaotic, but it gets me 6 classes and 16 credits; it was the only schedule I could concoct that got me even that much. Almost very day's schedule is different. Mondays and Wednesdays I start at 10, go until 2, break until 3:15, and then go until 4:15. Tuesdays I start at 7:45, go until 11:15, break until 12:45, go until 1:45, break until 3:15, and finish at 5:15. Thursdays I don't start until 12:45, go until 1:45, break until 3:15, and finish at 5:15. Fridays I start at 10, go until 11:15, break until 12:45, and finish at 1:45. Like I said, chaotic. The classes are Intro to Foods, Operating Systems, Intro to Family and Consumer Science, Object Oriented Programming I, Analytical Thinking and Moral Judgement, and Missionary Book of Mormon (because that has the entire BoM in one semester, whereas otherwise you have to take two semesters to get it all). Wish me luck on registering!
